The castle was built by wealthy Lord Asano Naganao
in 1645 of the Edo era (1603-1867).
Oishi shrine was dedicated to the Loyal Samurai (Gishi),
lords and generals of the Asano and Mori families.
The Oishi family were the chief retainers
and central figures of the Ako Loyal Samurai.
There are ruins, including the gate,
of the house where three generations
of the Oishi family lived,
within the grounds of the Ako castle ruins.
They are some of the few preserved
constructions of the Edo era in Ako.
His house is called Ruins of Oishi's House.
